This is what a $2.5 million home looks like in cities across Canada

While $2.5 million might be relatively bog-standard in major cities like Vancouver or Toronto, they are the exception, not the rule. Elsewhere in our beautiful country that price tag can get you a pretty spectacular home.It might have a basketball court or even be ocean front property.

So if you're tired of seeing mediocre houses at outrageous prices it might be time to consider a different corner of the great white north.

Here's what a $2.5 million house looks like in cities across Canada.

Saskatoon

If you're a bibliophile then this house is the one for you. It has a library with 20-foot ceilings and oh my lord is it beautiful! The rest of the home is also stunning with seven bedrooms and six bathrooms there's more than enough room for a growing family. It has the feel of a heritage home but none of the problems that often come with old houses. 2.5 million home canada

Vancouver

This home for just over $2.5 million is charming and unique. The home was originally built on a 16.5 foot wide lot so it's very thin but the owners later purchased the next door lot so you have another 16.5 feet of surrounding property. The home only has two bedrooms and two bathrooms but it's filled with natural light and all the essentials.

On this quarter acre corner lot is this stunning new build. The home is modern and stylish, with features like an open concept floor plan perfect for entertaining. The kitchen is gleaming with it's all white tile and backsplash. My favourite part of the home is the master en suite, which has one of the largest soaker tubs I've ever seen.

This townhome is currently being used as retail space but it's being sold with the potential to turn it into a dream home. It's located in Yorkville, known for it's high-end shopping. The home exterior is part of a row of historical brick houses – reminiscent of the original neighbourhood.

Sitting on almost five acres of land this mansion comes complete with a pool, basketball court and skating rink (it's Canada). The home has five bedrooms, including a second floor which is designated as a guest or "teen suite". It also has all your other typical mansion bells and whistles like a gourmet kitchen and luxury finishes throughout.

For $2.5 million in Winnipeg you can buy an entire apartment building. But as far as homes go nothing really comes close to that price tag. The closest I could find was this five bedroom home for just a little over $2 million. It's you typical luxury home with marble floors, oak hardwood and one hell of a kitchen.

Watching the sunrise and sunset over the water from your back deck would be an every day occurrence if you got this five bedroom home.  Located in Pierrefonds this home's landscaped back garden is right on Prairies River. The home is contemporary with lots of natural light and the house also comes with a pool in the backyard. It's picture perfect.

So this house is definitely closer to $3 million but who knows, maybe they're willing to sell for below asking. Anyway, this four bedroom home is a masterpiece with soaring 28-foot cathedral ceilings, massive windows and plenty of open space.  The home also has a wine cellar, rec room with a bar and a greenhouse.

While this house doesn't look like some of the show stopping homes we've seen don't let that deter you. Also ignore the dated interior. Focus on the fact that it's over an acre of ocean front property. That should be enough to persuade anyone to spend $2.2 million on this home.
