Managing Editor

We're looking for a Managing Editor to work with other members of the Freshdaily editorial team on all content initiatives including articles, video and social media. You will work closely with our staff of writers, photographers, videographers and social media hosts in all aspects of content production and planning including news, entertainment, travel, food, real estate and other topics that the site covers.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of editorial planning and content production.
• Assign stories, provide mentorship, edit copy, fine tune headlines, source and format photos and multimedia, package content for publication according to the site's style and formatting guidelines.
• Ensure the content team meets or exceeds posting levels, page view and other targets.
• Write and create content for the website, newsletters and our social media platforms as applicable.
• Monitor web and social media analytics and adjust content strategies accordingly.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of journalism experience in a senior editorial role, preferably with news, culture, lifestyle and real estate related content at a digital media publication.
• Bachelor or Masters of Journalism degree preferred.
• Strong writing and grammar skills and the ability to enforce the site's style and formatting guidelines.
• Familiarity and knowledge of Canadian Press style guidelines.
• An understanding of what makes content compelling and sharable.
• Expert knowledge of Canada across a range of subject areas including general news, travel, entertainment, food, real estate and more.
• Active user of social media including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications especially Photoshop for photo editing.
• Advanced knowledge of SEO, web and social media analytics.
• Experience with content discovery and social monitoring platforms like Crowdtangle.
• Strong time management and attention to detail.
• Willingness to work unconventional hours, evenings and weekends as applicable.

Digital Reporter

We’re looking for an experienced reporter to join our editorial team covering at least one of news, travel, food, entertainment and/or real estate.

The ideal candidate is a social media obsessive who is as comfortable writing about a controversy on Twitter as they are a breathtaking new wilderness retreat. They should be a strong storyteller with a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

This is a full-time, remote role, but a familiarity with Canada and the topics we cover is essential.

Responsibilities

• Pitch, research and write stories for the website and social media platforms.
• Source and format photos to package posts according to the site’s style and formatting guidelines.
• Optimize stories for SEO and identify content ideas based on trends.
• Consistently hit challenging traffic and content targets.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of journalism experience working as a writer/reporter or content creator in a fast-paced environment. 
• Excellent time management, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate with others. 
• A willingness to work unconventional hours, including evenings and weekends when applicable.
• Strong SEO skills.
• Familiarity and knowledge of Canadian Press style guidelines.
• Expert knowledge of current events, travel, food, entertainment and/or real estate
• Active user of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

We're looking for someone with an energetic but professional on-camera personality and a knack for creating compelling content on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook stories, Instagram Live, Reels and videos.

Responsibilities

• Create video and social media content daily to be shared on Freshdaily's various social media channels.
• Social media planning, photo and video editing as applicable. 
• Collaborate with other Freshdaily team members as applicable.

Requirements

• Demonstrated on-camera experience on social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
• Expert knowledge of Canadian news, pop culture, food and travel.
• A knack for understanding what makes social media content compelling and sharable. 
• Proficiency wih Adobe Creative Cloud applications especially Photoshop for photo editing, Adobe Premiere for video editing or comparable software.
• Excellent time management, attention to detail, ability to work quickly and consistently hit deadlines. 
• Willingness to work evening and weekend shifts as required.
