In cities like Toronto and Vancouver, $1 million is pretty much the average price of a house. In fact, it's actually a bit higher than $1 million in Vancouver. It's $1.2 million. Ouch.
But if you've ever wondered where you'd get the most bang for your buck, here's what $1 million homes look like in cities across Canada.

The closest thing I could find to a detached house for $1 million in Vancouver was this four-bedroom duplex. While the interior is pretty basic, if not a bit dated, it's in a decent location with good transport links. And when it comes to real estate, location is king.
Within walking distance of Molson Park and Iberville Subway station is this ultra sleek and minimalist new build for just a little over $1 million. It's open concept with lots of natural light and has a heated English courtyard to boot.
Waterfront property is rare, but for $1.025 million you can have over 200-feet of private waterfront. This four-bedroom, four-bathroom post and beam house is a 50 minute drive from downtown Ottawa but is a nature lovers dream. Plus, that privacy and property seem worth the commute.
Located in the affluent Nutana neighbourhood, this single family home has a designer kitchen, plenty of room in the basement and private backyard with a huge deck and lots of trees.
