Someone is trying to preserve an abandoned Blockbuster in Canada as a museum

If you remember the long-gone (but never forgotten) video shop Blockbuster, you'll undoubtedly remember how much fun it was to browse the store's endless aisles of movies and snacks. Well, one Canadian is trying to preserve that feeling by saving an abandoned Blockbuster.

In a petition circulating online, Andrew Stuart is attempting at garnering enough support to save an abandoned Blockbuster located between Owen Sound and Georgian Bay in Ontario.

In fact, he wants it to be turned into a museum.

"Just outside Owen Sound, Georgian Bluffs has one of the last intact Blockbusters in the world," he wrote on the petition page.

"This site is of great importance to millions of people across the globe who grew up with this icon. Imagine getting to share the magic of Blockbuster with future generations by keeping this potential museum intact."

Making his case even stronger, Stuart went on to say that the "historic" building could provided some much-needed tourism and economic growth to the area.

"I know I stop in and reminisce from time to time."

While the petition only has about 600 signatures - the goal is 1,000 - many seemed to share in Stuart's nostalgia for the video store.

"Blockbuster is a part of my child hood the place to buy and rent every movie I wanted to see!" someone wrote in the comments.

"It was a great place. Many family memories and I think that our children should have the same fun we had as kids and families," another person added.

Let's hope that the petition works to save a truly important part of history.
