Justin Bieber and Avril Lavigne join Canadian artists for epic rendition of Lean on Me

More than two dozen Canadian artists worked together to create and perform a touching rendition of Lean on Me on last night's Stronger Together, Tous Ensemble broadcast.

The performance, which took place near the end of the show, featured artists including Justin Bieber, Michael Buble, Bryan Adams, Fefe Dobson, Avril Lavigne, Sarah McLachlan, Jann Arden, Tyler Shaw, Johnny Orlando, Walk off the Earth, The Tenors and more.

The rendition was thought up by musicians Tyler Shaw and Fefe Dobson as a way to honour the late Bill Withers, share the lyrical message of the song and raise funds for the Canadian Red Cross

The song has now been released onto various streaming platforms through the new collective artist initiative ArtistsCAN, and all proceeds will be going to the Canadian Red Cross to help fight the pandemic.

Meanwhile, residents from across the country were understandably touched by last night's performance and many have taken to social media to express their thoughts and feelings about it.

"Ok so the 'Lean on Me' all star cover by @StrongerCanada #TousEnsemble performers tonight was amazing," one Twitter user wrote. "Proud of what Canada's best put on tonight. Inspired me to text COVID to 30333 to Food Banks Canada for a second time tonight. You should too if able. We'll get thru this."

Some Canadians even said the song had them in tears.

"Lean on Me. All Canadian edition, 2020. Buckets, tears and love. #StrongerTogether," one person said

Anyone hoping to donate to the Red Cross can text LEANONME to 20222 (standard text messaging rates apply) or go to the website

Residents can also text COVID to 30333 to donate to Food Banks Canada on behalf of last night's broadcast.
